Bio-composite resins · Single-serve packaging

Performs like plastic.
Returns like a leaf.

ESR Biomaterials makes certified-compostable, zero-petroleum bio-composite resins — a true drop-in replacement for the fossil plastics in single-serve food, beverage, and pharmaceutical packaging.

The compromise is over

Sustainability used to cost you something.

Every green material before this one asked packaging to give something up — strength, shelf life, line speed, or margin. ESR resins give up none of it.

Engineered from renewable biomass and natural coffee-chaff fillers, they run on the same injection, thermoforming, film-blowing, and extrusion lines you use today — then end their life in soil, not in a landfill or an ocean.

Every claim, provable

Fifteen properties. Four standards. One material.

We don't ask you to choose between doing right and performing well. Here is exactly what the resin delivers — and the standard that backs each claim.

01 Environmental integrity

100% Compostable

Breaks down fully in commercial composting — no persistent residue, no toxins left behind.

ASTM D6400 · EN 13432

Zero Microplastic

Bio-based polymers biodegrade completely — they never fragment into persistent microplastics.

No fragment residue

Zero Petroleum

Not a fossil polymer with additives — built from renewable biomass from the ground up.

100% fossil-free feedstock

Food-Contact Safe

Authorised for direct food contact across North American and European frameworks.

FDA 21 CFR · EU 10/2011
02 Performance

Heat Resistance

Holds form and function through hot-fill and elevated-temperature service without deforming.

Hot-fill ready

Cold & Freezer Stable

Stays tough and impact-resistant at refrigeration and freezer temperatures.

Sub-zero performance

Oxygen Barrier

Restricts oxygen ingress to protect flavour, freshness, and product shelf life.

O₂ barrier grade

Water-Vapor Barrier

Controls moisture transmission to keep dry and sensitive contents stable.

Low WVTR
03 Drop-in & processing

Drop-In Replacement

Swaps 1:1 for incumbent resins — no new tooling, no new machines, no requalifying the line.

Same molds · same speeds

Injection Grade

Formulated for high-throughput injection molding of cups, closures, and rigid containers.

ESR 3.7S / 8.1-5 series

Thermoform Grade

Sheet-ready grades for trays, lids, blisters, and portion packs.

HMS-TFF-M series

Film-Blowing Grade

High-melt-strength grades for compostable films, liners, and flexible wraps.

THERM-COMP series
04 Circularity & carbon

Circular by Design

From biomass to package to compost to soil — a closed loop, not a landfill line.

Land · brand · land

32 Biomass Feedstocks

A diversified, regenerative feedstock base — resilient supply, not a single monoculture.

32 renewable inputs

Negative Carbon

Biocarbon grades sequester more carbon than they emit, cradle-to-gate.

Down to −1.07 kg CO₂e/kg*

ESG-Ready Proof

Third-party certifications and LCA data your sustainability team can report with confidence.

Documented & auditable
Where it goes to work

Built for single-serve.

Single-serve is where plastic does the most damage and disappears the fastest — the highest-volume, lowest-recovery format on the shelf. It's exactly where a compostable drop-in matters most.

Food

Single-serve food

  • Yogurt & dairy cups
  • Dessert & snack pots
  • Portion & condiment packs
  • Trays, lids & closures
Beverage

Single-serve beverage

  • Cold cups & domes
  • Coffee capsules & pods
  • Bottle caps & components
  • Stirrers & straws
Pharmaceutical

Pharma & health

  • Blister packs & unit-dose
  • Pill bottles & closures
  • Device & sample packaging
  • Barrier-critical containers
The loop closes

A material that comes back.

Conventional single-serve plastic travels one way: oil well to shelf to landfill. ESR resin travels in a circle. Renewable biomass becomes resin, resin becomes packaging, and packaging composts back into the soil that grows the next harvest.

No line change required

Drop-in means drop-in.

The switch that usually means new capital, new tooling, and months of requalification is, here, a change of pellet. Everything downstream stays exactly as it is.

Today

Fossil resin

  • Petroleum-derived polymer
  • Persists for centuries
